Spotlight on Brenden Coney of Elevation Creations
My name is Brenden Coney and I am 16 years old and in the 11th grade. As a young child, I “helped” my dad in his workshop. It was here where my interest and my love of woodworking began. Over the years, I have honed my skills while working alongside my dad in his workshop. One day in the 7th grade, I was looking for a way to make money, and I figured I could pick up woodworking as more than a hobby. How hard could it be? I first started with making cutting boards and pens, and I sold them at my church’s craft fair. I then did a few more shows after that and that’s how I got started. Over the years, I have expanded into selling my products into seasonal shops in the mall, and other gift shops in the mountains. I have even been approached by Williams-Sonoma.
I have been woodworking for about four and a half years now. My shop is located in my garage, which is often covered in a layer of sawdust. I enjoy working with a variety of woods and like how every wood is different. I also enjoy meeting all the great people that I come into contact with on a daily basis. Running a business has taught me many things such as time management and leadership. In my spare time aside from work and school, I enjoy playing basketball, skiing, hiking and camping. I am also active in my Boy Scout Troop and church youth group. I hope to attend Montana State University and eventually become an engineer.
